October 2024
Dear Saint Mary’s Community,
Firstly, I would like to thank Madison Sciba and Lilly La Salle for the work they did last year to get The Collegian back and running, rebuilding the team and the paper from the ground up. Drew and I are thankful to continue building The Collegian, presenting fair and accurate journalism for Lamorinda readers.
I want to continue the trend of articles we included last year, such as on-campus feature pieces that really emphasize our amazing writers' voices. That said, I aim to expand our horizons with what can/will be published for The Collegian -- hard-hitting news pieces concerning Saint Mary's and the Lamorinda area, more local entertainment pieces around the Bay Area, student-driven opinion pieces, and more. It has been an important period for student journalism and we want to continue that trend of championing those voices. The Collegian wants the paper to reflect our readership and our community. If you are interested in collaboration, we would be happy to listen.
While we continue to rebuild and finish our first print cycle (at the time of writing), we hope you join us for the journey and seek us out to know what is happening in your community, whether on our website, our social media page, or reading the print paper around campus.
Looking forward to a great year,
Andrew Martinez Cabrera
